IBSC broke most records in the 35th President Cup 2016
The much awaited President Cup 2016, has just ended after 3 gruesome days of competition at Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan in Shah Alam from 25th to 27th November 2016. A total of 42 clubs with 1,213 athletes participated this year.
Team IBSC has the biggest contingent of 164 swimmers being registered, a good sign of keen participation in the annual inter-club competition, especially among the junior learners, . The big team led by Mr Vincent Low and Mr KK Yap as the team managers experienced hectic days catering to the needs of the swimmers and coaches. Fortunately the good chaperones and supportive parents all rendered great help and assistance as usual.
Team IBSC |
Team IBSC settled for 1st runner-up position with a modest shortfall after clinching 967.5 points behind PADE (1113 points). The 3rd position was won by DSA with 385.5 points.
IBSC however managed to close the gap compared to last year and that is itself an accomplishment. What is more important is that many swimmers progress well and set splendid PBs after months of diligent training, thanks to all the coaches at various levels.
Much to the delight of the parents and coaches, IBSC broke the most number of records in the meet and we congratulate the record breakers below.

BY TAN MING WAI
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia ended their Asian Swimming Championships campaign in Japan on a positive note as Welson Sim anchored a youthful side to a new national men’s 4x100m freestyle record and a creditable fourth place.
Welson combined with Keith Lim, Yeap Zheng Yang and Foong Wei Tze to clock 3:24.93 to erase the previous mark of 3:25.55 set by Welson, Daniel Bego, Lim Ching Hwang, Alwyn Tan that won silver at last year’s Singapore SEA Games.
China’s Lin Yongqing, He Jianbin, Liu Zhaochen and Yu Hexin slashed the meet record by four seconds to win in 3:16.37. The previous mark was 3:20.28. Japan were second 3:17.25 while South Korea settled for the bronze in 3:18.80.
Welson and Co’s record feat came as no surprise as they clocked 3:26.24 for the third overall fastest time in the heat.
It was the third national record set in the four-day competition. On Thursday, Wong Fu Kang (28.59 in the men’s 50m breaststroke) and Caroline Chan (29.55 in the women’s 50m backstroke) were the record breakers.
Malaysia ended the championships with one silver and one bronze from the divers. Ooi Tze Liang-Chew Yi Wei were the silver medallists in the men’s 3m springboard synchro while Loh Zhiayi-Kimberly Bong were third in the women’s 10m platform synchro.

IBSC swimmers had a joyous outing for Hari Sukan Negara at DSA Aquathlon 2016
What an event! The atmosphere at the venue for Hari Sukan Negara was filled with roaring cheers, funfair and excitement! IBSC boys and girls were roaring to go. After all this was a rare occasion for most of them to participate in an Aqualthon event apart from their normal swimming competitions.
At the starting block, swimmers taking their mark and off they go. The spectators cheered with excitement and encouragement. As they resurfaced out of the pool for the changeover from swim to run, spectators were equally anxious especially on how swimmers will perform. Our swimmers did not have any difficulties at the changeover and they continued their run at swift pace to the finishing line.
Everyone was exhausted after the race but their enthusiasm was still going strong. Who won? All participants won as they finished with a well deserving finisher's medal.
Well done IBSC!
