IBSC junior development team triumphed in ASUM Junior Splash Swim-Leg 1

ASUM/NSC/MILO Junior Splash Swim-Leg 1 was held last weekend on 19th-21st July, 2019 at the National Aquatic Center, Kuala Lumpur Sports City.

It was such a thrilling moment to witness our Team IBSC once again defending the championship title with the most points collected against 34 other clubs, a testimonial to our great development program. Even though not the largest team, IBSC has a pool of most talented swimmers with 147 kids eager to gain experience on the battle field.

Through this platform many newly groomed IBSC junior swimmers excelled in their events giving promising results. Congratulations to IBSC medalists who fruitfully reaped what they sowed, despite having busy schedules with school works and other activities.

Individual points score

Ho Jia Ming, 12 collected the most points for the club and has unprecedentedly accomplished 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze for his individual and relay events. His consistent training proved to have paid off handsomely.

Top medalists, Hannah Maegan Riseley,  8, outshone her peers in Group 5 as she swiftly shielded 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze for her individual events that she has participated.

Medhavinz Seew Ravindran in Group 2, demonstrated that nothing is impossible. His persistence edged him  1 Gold and 1 Silver in 100m and 50m Breaststroke events respectively. Medhavinz was also one of the great contributors who has helped Group 2 Boys Relay team win a Bronze in the  4x 100m Medley Relay.

Meanwhile, Eleanor Kennington is happy to join IBSC recently, especially in anchoring the relay team to win 1 Silver and 1 Bronze in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay and 4x50m Medley Relay. Despite being in the disadvantage year group, she still managed to beat her senior rivals to a Gold in the 50m Fly. Well done!

The Group 3 boys relay team comprising of  Teo Zun Jet, Ho Jia Ming, Aniq Muqri and Jareick Cheong swam with such lightning-like speed breaking not one but three meet records out of 4 relay events.

Teo Zun Jet, an active Water polo player, managed to improve tremendously in his own PB and won a Silver and a Bronze in the events of 11-12 Group 3 100m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle.

Up-coming athlete, Jereick Cheong also managed to achieve 1 Silver and 2 Bronze in 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke. Both of them together with their comrades clinched 4 Golds for the Relay events in 11-12 Group 3 for  4x50m Freestyle, 4x50m Medley, 4x100m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley relays. Congratulations for the marvelous team effort!



Teo Sze Hui was able to pick up 2 Silver in her pet events of 50m and 100m Breaststroke.

Her teammate, Ng Yen Sze, was able to shield the 13-14 Group 2 events of 200m IM a and 50m Backstroke with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze respectively. Both the girls also contributed in the relay events by wrapping up 3 Bronze in 4x50m Freestyle Relay, 4x50m Medley Relay and 4x100m Freestyle Relay. Big applause to the girls for such splendid achievement.

Group 5 girls (7-8 years) relay team comprised of Lem Yi Shuen, Hannah Meagan, Wong Joelyne and Hannah Khoo yielded 1 Gold and 2 Silver in 4x100m Freestyle,  4x50m Freestyle and 4x50m Medley Relays.

Wong Joelyne secured 2 individual Bronze in 50m Fly and 100m Breaststroke.

Baltazar Allende

Baltazar Allende, in the 7-8 year group, is a talented swimmer splashing up 2 Silver in his 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle and  a Bronze in 100m Freestyle.

He also helped to anchor his team to 3 Gold in 4x50m Freestyle Relay, 4x50m Medley Relay and 4x100m Freestyle Relay, all together a fantastic outcome with team members Yap Zhen Kok and Gabriel Kwong, both of whom are tiny Ikan Bilises but their strength and will power proved otherwise.

Gabriel Kwong, 7 is our youngest swimmer, one with a bright potential. Apart from 3 Gold in the above relay events, he also pocketed a Silver in his favourite 50m Fly. Thanks to the guidance of his coach and his former swimmer mum. A testimonial that "Size Does Not Matter"!

Big shout out to Team IBSC for having the most talented junior swimmers who have successfully collected points to perch IBSC as the Champion Club in Leg 1 of the ASUM/NSC/MILO Junior Splash Swim, Leg 1 held for the past 3 days, 19th to 21st July, 2019 at Bukit Jalil National Aquatic Centre.

Team Briefing Notes for Junior Splash Leg 1 2019

Dear IBSC swimmers and parents,

We appreciate the attendance of swimmers at IBSC's Team Briefing for Junior Splash Leg 1 2019.

Just to recap the important points:


Test Pool & Warm-Up Time

The pool sessions are as follows:

19 to 21 July 2019 : Warm-up  6.45 am. - 7.45 am.


Session Reports 

The competition starts at 8:00 am.

Scratching/Withdrawal of Events

If you wish to scratch any events, please inform the Team Manager immediately or latest by 12pm, 18 July 2019 (Thursday). Events not scratched or not swum (NS/DNS) may prevent swimmers from continuing in subsequent events.

Team Attire for Swimmers & Parents

The team attire will be as follows:

19 July 2019 (Fri)   : Pink/Navy blue jercey and shorts

20 July 2019 (Sat)   : Yellow Tee and any black shorts

21 July 2019 (Sun)   : Lime green/black thighs

If you do not have any of the above t-shirts, you may still purchase them in IBSC office (while stock last) or wear any IBSC T-shirts or similar colour tees.


Swim Wears

Swimmers are advised to wear swimming suits/jammers/trunks approved by FINA only. No swim wears should extend below the knees.

Swimmers are advised to bring extra swimsuits, goggles and caps on standby. Do change the wet suits after each race to keep your body dry and warm.

Seating

IBSC swimmers and supporters are advised to camp together as a team for ease of communication and food distribution. The IBSC camp will be marked with IBSC flag banners.


Meals and Refreshments

Snacks and lunch meal will be provided by IBSC to the swimmers. If parents would like to buy additional lunch meal, please contact Vincent Low at 012-7223733.

Please bring your own supply of drinking water.

Group Photography

Group photography will be done during lunch break. Don't miss out the opportunity.

Logistic and Pool Location 

Swimmers are to make their own way to the pool at National Akuatik Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur Sports City.

Please use public transport to the stadium or park at public parking D or E.
  

Discipline

Good sportsmanship is vital. The EXCO expects all swimmers to carry the good name of IBSC during the swim meet. All swimmers are to respect each other including your competing peers and adhere to the rules and regulations of the meet and instructions of the Team Managers/officials and coaches.

Please also be reminded that the diving platforms and springboards are out of bounds. Do not be playful around the pool deck or marshal area to avoid any untoward incidents. Any delinquent swimmer can be subject to disciplinary action.

If required, please get from office or Team Manager.

Tanjung Biru (Open Water) Swim Marathon on 7 July 2019

On Sunday 7th July 2019, a handful of IBSC swimmers were participating in Tanjung Biru (Open Water) Swim Marathon located at Pantai Cermin, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.

There were five event categories in the marathon. First category was Sea Angel (400m) for boys and girls age 7 - 13 years old. Then, there were 1km, 2km, 5 km and 10km categories for men and women age 13 years old above.

The organiser of this marathon, Swimon has been offering Open Water Swimming (OWS) races and events since 2017. But Tanjung Biru was their debut using a 'beach loop format' (where swimmers started from the beach, swim a certain distance in the sea and return to the beach before entering the water again to start another loop). See the diagram below.

We were greeted with heavy rain that Sunday morning, so the sea was a bit choppy and cold. Despite the weather challenges, our swimmers did rather well in their events.

For Sea Angel (400m), IBSC had five representatives.

Twin brothers Nicholas Long and Matthew Long both won 2nd and 3rd place for Male age 12-13 years old.

While their triplet sister Kelly Long (below, in red tri-suit) won 1st place for Female age 12-13 years.

For Female age 10-11 years old, Cheah Dong Xuan won 2nd place.

And Wong Joelyne swam her way to 1st place for Female age 7-9 years old group.

For 1km category, Don Lim won 1st place for his age group (Male 13-29 years old) as well overall winner with his timing of 16:42.09 minutes.

In the same distance, Awwal Zasfika won 1st place for her age group and received trophy for overall Female winner in this 1km event.

In the 2km category, our sole representative - Keenen Low was among the top 10 swimmer in his age group.

Moving on to 5km category, Chelsea Lee Ning made us proud by winning 1st place for Female age 13-19 years old group with her timing of 1:18.25.41 hour.

As with any marathon, the cherry on top is the longest distance. For 10km category, both Emmanuel Lee Boon Yao and Muhammad Rayyan Muhd Iqbal were in the top 10 for their age group, and top 16 for overall placing, with their timing 3:20:45.21 hours and 3:17:13.57 hours respectively.

Well done, congratulations to all swimmers, their families and support teams! May the achievements of these swimmers be a motivation for IBSC to start an OWS team in the future.

Awe-inspiring swimmers in Karnival Bakat Kebangsaan (KBK) Siri 1/2019

IBSC continued the momentum from last week’s PRAKL Talent Carnival, Circuit 1 2019 and managed to top the medal list in the talent ID program with excellent achievement in Karnival Bakat Kebangsaan (KBK) Siri 1/2019.

This one day meet was held yesterday, 13 July 2019,  at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil with a total of 235 swimmers from all over the states of Malaysia, comprising of novice swimmers and new learners from very young age groups of 5 to 12 years old.

Since it is a KL meet, IBSC sent the most number of participants to the junior meet, with 74 participants. Our team positioned itself easily on top of the  pinnacle as overall champion with 28 gold and 16 silver and 17 bronze.

Congratulation to all IB swimmers who swam well especially so to the greenhorns who tasted victory for the first time. The talent ID program has undoubtedly motivated and inspired many new comers into the swimming sports.

The meet was graced by the Director from Majlis Sukan Wilayah Persekutuan (MSWP), Yang Berusaha Dr Hasnul Faizal Bin Hushin Amri during the Victory Ceremony, accompanied by MSWP officials.

Among our junior pre-comp swimmers, Joelyne Wong's fantastic show earned her the top female point-earner as she scored 80 points with 4 gold and 4 silver. She swam in all 8 events in the 7-8 years category.

Cruising closely with 76 points is Ho Jia Xuen, 10, with 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze. Enormous effort by Jia Xuen as all coloured medals were within his reach. Jia Xuen took the opportunity to achieve 5 sets of new improved PBs.

Another commendable performance by a newbie was exhibited by Rebecca Chan, 11, who collected 4 gold and 2 bronze in the meet, improving her position from last week's PRAKL Talent meet.

The tiny pre-school category was most interesting event to watch during the race as excited parents cheered for their kids swimming with kicking fins and boards, in an Olympic size pool which is humongous in comparison to their size.

Rebecca's brother, Benjamin Chan, 6 , who have just learned how to swim last year, was all delighted with his medals win too. Ben made his coach proud by winning 2 gold and 1 silver.

Yap Zi Bo and Josh Ting were both the youngest girl and boy, respectively, taking part in the 5-6 years old category for team IBSC. Zi Bo also learned how to swim last year and made spectacular progress by winning 2 gold and 2 silver in the event, thanks to her hard working attitude and her love in swimming. Mean while, Josh Ting managed to get 3 bronze even though still resisting much to swim practices.

Yap Zhi Bo, 6, was the youngest IB swimmer participating in the 5-6 years category.

Josh's older sister, Callie Ting, switched from diving to swimming, and proved to yield more promising results as she secured 3 gold and 3 bronze in the swimming competition.

Congratulations to all medalists and worthy of mentions are also Yap Zhen Kok, David Lee, Awwal Zasfika, Choo Diwen, Chan Xian Ang, Adam Malik,   Beatrice Law, Chin Yu Kean, Chin Ying En and Amita Wong for their podium finishes. Matching praises also goes to swimmers who shave their times with new PBs.

Lastly, we would like to express our great thanks to PraKL for hosting and managing the swimming Bakat event for MSWP, providing their technical expertise and resources. Albeit not having an electronic timing system, the race was run smoothly. Big credits are also due to energetic crew team comprising of active parents and mostly senior IB swimmers who are so ever willing to help out.  BRAVO to the Technical Officials and awesome Volunteers!
