The KL inter-schools swimming championship
(MSSWP) 2014 has recently came to a close with 42 primary schools and 41
secondary schools taking part in the 2-day event on 25-26 February, 2014 at
Bandar Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
Under the primary section, SJKC Jalan
Davidson, with only a small team of 14 primary swimmers, emerged as overall champion
defending their title last year with collection of 9 gold, 12 silver and 10
bronze.
Meanwhile, the secondary school section is
again dominated by SMK Aminuddin Baki, who has sent 24 secondary swimmers, with
their massive haul of 21 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze.

Overall champion for the Primary School went to
Lee Jia Jing of Taylors International School whilst Secondary School’s overall
champion was earned by Keith Lim of SMK Taman Connaught with their excellent
record breaking feat.
Jia Jing and Keith are under the PRAKL (Kuala Lumpur Amateur Swimming Association) Squad coached by Coach He Tinglan.

In 100m butterfly, gifted swimmer Jia Jing broke a long-standing 1997 record belonging to Wong Kin Wai of 1:10.54 as he renewed the time at 1:09.58. Another record belonging to Ian James Barr of 2:37.52 in 200m IM was also wrecked when Jia Jing sprinted with his mighty swim and tapped the board at 2:33.74. In addition, he also bettered his own record time at 1:19.26 in 100m breaststroke.
SMK Taman Connaught is the proudest record
producer as Keith Lim who represented his school racked up 6 new meet records
out of the 9 events he took. Keith not only broke the meet records but also drowned the MSSM records in several
events with his powerful swim.
In 50m freestyle, Keith refreshed his own
time and went on to break the MSSM national record of 24.35s previously held by
Allen Ong in 1997 by clocking a new time of 24.29s. Another MSSM national
record belonging to Foo Jian Beng in 50m butterfly (MSSM 2006 : 26.32s) was also
shattered by Keith when he touched in record time of 25.83s.
On top of all the glory, he rewrote the meet records in
100m backstroke with a new time of 1:02.38 (old record : 1:03.44), 100m fly 58.26s (59.27s), 400m IM 5:01.95 (5:04.34), 50m backstroke 28.13s (28.62s) and 100m freestyle
53.79s (53.81s).
Many of the school swimmers are based in
Ikan Bilis Swimming Club and their great performances have contributed to their
