Keith, 20, swam to 5th placing in the 1/8 final round with an impressive new time of 23.10 and broke the 2015 MAS national record previously held by Alwyn Tan (Penang) of 23.17.
In the preliminary heat, Keith qualified into the finals by swimming 23.56. His previous personal best was 23.33 clocked at the recent Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia last April 2018.
Once he touched down to the homeland, Keith related in a text message : "I feel really happy as I was aiming to break the (50m free) record for quiet some time. In addition, I also did well too in my other events of 100m & 200m free and happy with the timings."
In the 100m free event, Welson Sim did well too with 50.86 (7th placing) in the Final A. Meanwhile in the Final B, Keith has a decent timing of 50.73 for 100m free.
