Fruitful golden haul for Team IBSC at SportExcel Leg 1 in Melaka

IBSC swimmers who registered to participate in the SportExcel Leg 1 in Melaka did not sum up to an impressive numbers this year, partly because many are in feverish exam mood and gave the race a miss. Only 55 IBSC swimmers swam in the meet at Stadium Akuatik Hang Jebat. The Leg 1, organised by the Malacca Amateur Swimming Association (MASA) attracted some 763 swimmers all over Malaysia.

However, we did our best to compile as much points as possible and it was indeed a blessing that our swimmers managed to top the chart in the medal tally by garnering 11 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze. Pade Supersharks who collected the most points had 9 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze, followed by Kelab Renang MSSC with 5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.

Great performances came from many swimmers (refer to table below) especially Law Li Wei who swept all tri-coloured medals in all the 8 events she participated. With a series of glorious swim, Li Wei grabbed 5 gold, 2 silver  and a bronze.

Even though Li Wei just competed in the Malaysia National Age Group only a fortnight ago, she continued to trim her times in most of her events. With her excellent achievement, Li Wei is IBSC top points earner with 188 points collected. Well done Li Wei!

The second best swimmer is non other than freestylist, Iqmal Muqhis, who scooped 2 gold in the 50m & 100m freestyle, 1 silver in 50m fly and 2 bronze in 50m & 100m breaststroke.

Meanwhile, Ng Kai Wen accumulated 2nd top notch with 152.5 points at hand and he did a surprising finish by touching the wall first in his 50m backstroke event. Excellent job!

IBSC medalists and point earners in Leg 1

Well done to all the medalists and top points achievers. Most swimmers feel jubilant with their renewed PBs once again and are eager to repeat their awesome performance in Leg 2 next month in Shah Alam.

Top 24 swimmers who collect the most points for each event both in Leg 1 (Melaka) and Leg 2 (Shah Alam) will be able to advance to the Grand Final at Kompleks Renang Kuala Lumpur, Bandar Tun Razak on 13-14 August, 2016.

The outing was a great success led by Coach Kamarudin, Coach Daniel and Mr Vincent Low as the dedicated Team Manager.  Mrs Tanya Low and Mrs Shirley Kuan were the responsible chaperons looking after the kids. Many supporting parents were sporting too contributing their instant photos, team progress and results posting on the Whats App channels to update others.

IBSC would also like to thank En. Akmal Syarifudfin from USPTN, Majlis Sukan Wilayah Persekutuan for taking his valuable time to accompany the swimmers to Melaka to gain an insight into the competition proper by the development squad.

THANK YOU ALL!
