Sebastian Soon and Wesley Kam were overall champions in the inter-school meets

The IBSC swimmers have proved themselves once more in the inter-school meets around Klang Valley and Seremban.

Sebastian Soon again has defended his championship title in MSSS inter-school meet in Shah Alam when he was crowned the age group champion as well as the overall champion for the male category.

Sebastian cornered all medals in 13 events he participated and swept 10 gold  and 3 silver with 4 new meet records. He bettered his PBs and charted his name in the  meet records in 1500m free, 200m IM, 400 IM and 200m butterfly.

Sebastian was thrilled with his achievement and revealed his aspiration.

"I am quite happy with my 1500m free event which I finally attained more than 700 FINA points (703 to be exact). I am looking forward to compete in SUKMA Perak this year and hopefully I can perform even better."

Meanwhile in Negeri Sembilan, Wesley Kam also did his coach proud by emerging as overall champion in the MSSNS Meet in Negeri Sembilan.

Wesley Kam took centre stage in Negeri Sembilan inter-school meet representing Tuanku Jaafar College

Wesley broke the meet record for  200m breaststroke (2:38.53) and 200m IM (2:25.47) even though still tired from the previous competition the week before in KL.

He shared with us his appreciation :

"I am thankful for being awarded the Overall Champion and Best Boy Award by MSSNS.  I wouldn’t be where I am without the dedication and love from my mom, coach and teammates. I am glad that my perseverance has paid off - after hours and hours of training. It was especially hard for me this time around since this competition was right after PRAKL Age Group, so my body was really tired and aching.

Thank you to all who made my achievements possible. I hope to bring home more medals to make the club proud."

Congratulations and bravo to the IBSC swimmers!

The MSSS Swimming Championship 2014 was held in Shah Alam for 4 days from 25th to 28th February, 2014 with 44 primary and secondary schools in Selangor participating.

The age-group champions of MSSS 2014
The 4-day competition must be tiring not only for swimmers but also parents and teachers who stayed vigilantly to watch their children/students perform. But the fruit of victory always prove to be sweet.

Catholic High School emerged as the top swim team after harvesting 18 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze, followed by SJK (C) Batu Sebelas Cheras in second overall position with 10 gold.

What was amazing is there was only one sole swimmer from SJK (C) Batu Sebelas Cheras and she made a clean splash of 10 gold to push the overall position of her school to the second highest spot. The lone swimmer is none other than Yeong Zhen Yi, 10, an IBSC swimmer who came in top in all the 10 events she participated. With her golden achievement, Zhen Yi was awarded the overall champion for primary school section.

Yeong Zhen Yi's 10 gold achievement made her teachers proud

ELEVEN-year-old Yeong Zhen Yi is a swimming star in the making.

The Year Five pupil of SJK (C) Batu Sebelas Cheras stole the limelight in the Milo-Selangor Schools Sports Council Aquatic championships at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Shah Alam recently.

In the four-day championships, Zhen Yi won 10 gold medals in the girls’ Under-12 age group. The gold medal haul also earned Zhen Yi the Best Performer award in the girls’ Under-12 age group.

Her impressive performance also contributed to SJK(C) Batu Sebelas becoming the overall champions in the Primary Schools category.

She was naturally happy with her performance and was looking forward to the Milo-Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) swimming championships later this month.

The MSSM championships will be held at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Shah Alam from March 24-28. She will be taking part in all 10 events.

“I hope to do well in the MSSM swimming championships. It will be an interesting competition. I will get the chance to compete against some of the top swimmers in the age group,’’ said Zhen Yi.

For the jovial Zhen Yi, the season has been a fruitful one. In last month’s Kuala Lumpur age group championships, she won 12 golds — 10 individual and two in the relays — and she is eager to clock faster times in her events in the MSSM meet.

The championships was an exciting affair as several swimmers in the National Back-up squad also made their presence felt.

Yeap Zheng Yang, a student of SMJK Katholik, was voted the Best Performer in the boys’ Under-18 age group as well as Overall Best Swimmer in the boys category.

Zheng Yang won eight gold medals and also created new records in the 100m and 200 freestyle events.

Yap Siew Hui. also a student of SMJK Katholik, was impressive and won 10 gold medals. She also rewrote three meet records — in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events.

For her outstanding performance, Siew Hui was named the Best Performer in the girls Under-18 age group and the overall Best Swimmer in the girls category.

Both Siew Hui and Zheng Yang’s contribution of 18 gold medals made SMJK Katholik the overall champions in the Secondary Schools section.

In the Under-15 age group, Carynn Kay Chan, from Regent International School, was the Best Performer in the girls’ category after winning four gold medals while in the boys’ category, the Best Performer was Sri Cempaka’s Desmond Ng Yi Hao with five gold medals.

Yoke Chooi was happy with the overall results of the participants.
Sri Cempaka’s Jayden Tan Khai Xin and Lim Shum Qi were adjudged as the Best Performers in the boys and girls section of the Under-10 age group. Jayden won the award for winning four golds while Shum Qi won three golds.

Selangor Education Department sport unit’s swimming co-ordinator Wong Yoke Chooi said they were pleased with the overall results of the swimmers.

“Most of them are undergoing training with their respective coaches. We expect them to do well in the MSSM championships.

“We are the defending champions. It will be great if we can retain the overall crown for the second year,” said Yoke Chooi.

In the five team water-polo championships, SMK Kwang Hua became the champions after recording four wins. In second place was Sri Kuala Lumpur followed by SMK Kota Kemuning.

IBSC swimmers excelled in MSSS 2013 with Nicholas Soon named as Overall Champ

The MSSS Swimming Championship 2013 saw many records being broken last week when the annual meet took place from 26 Feb - 1 March, 2013 in Shah Alam.

The Soon brothers, Nicholas and Sebastian won the Best Boys category for U15 and U12 respectively.

Nicholas and Sebastian thanked their coaches and parents for their swimming achievements

Nicholas, a breaststroker, was expected to re-write all the meet records in his pet events and he did so by clocking new times of 31.82s in 50m, 1.09.37s in 100m and 2.31.45s in 200m breaststroke, the latter two were his own records last year. In total, Nicholas grabbed 6 gold and 1 silver. With a string of excellent and renewed times, it's not surprising Nicholas was named the Overall Champ for the boys.

Sebastian, on the other hand, collected 5 gold in 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 200m freestyle. He came in second in 100m backstroke and 200m IM. With the most number of points accumulated, Sebastian was Best Swimmer for U12 Boys.

The Soon brothers were grateful for their parents' support and credited their coaches, Coach Shazali and Coach Kamaruddin for nurturing them to their current state of victory.

Meanwhile, Mak Ai Sin did profoundly well for her Damansara Jaya school by breaking 2 records one of which was her own record in the previous year for 200m IM. Ai Sin garnered 10 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze in all the 14 events she swam, which entitled her to the Best Girl award for Girls 16-18 category.

Mak Ai Sin has 2 new meet records in MSSS when she touched at 2.29.95s for 200m IM and 2.28.69s in 200m butterfly

David Ong, also an IBSC swimmer, swimming for Sri KL school, performed at the top-notch mode by taking 4 gold and 1 silver; and in the midst, created 2 new records in 50m backstroke (38.58s) and 50m breaststroke (40.62s).  Young David who is merely 9 was thrilled to be bestowed the U10 Best Boy.

David's sister, Kimberly Ong, also contributed to the joint sibling success by winning 4 silver and 3 bronze in her events for 13-15 girls. She improved remarkably and deserved a pat on the back especially having to swim alongside with other stronger state swimmers.
