Super-duper Dhuha won Overall Champion in 7th SELANGOR ARENA Short Course Sprint Swimming Championship 2018

Super-duper Muhd. Dhuha Zulkifry, is no small fry in Ikan Bilis team when it comes to sprinting in water.

Although a year younger than all his senior competitors in Group 4, this 9 year old boy displayed awesome power in his swimming ability and had just awed everyone at the pool when he claimed victory of 9 gold in the 7th Selangor ARENA Short Course Swimming Championship 2018. The annual invitational meet was held from 17th to 19th August, 2018 at Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Shah Alam.

Muhd Dhuha, 9, was named the Overall Champion and Age Group Champion (Group 4 Boys) in the short course meet

Dhuha broke 2 meet records to deserve the Overall Champion title. On the first day he swam to a new record of 2:21.93 in 200m freestyle to erase a 2016 time of 2:23.67. He also went on to break the 100m butterfly meet record with his flying time of 1:10.15.

When asked about his achievement, Dhuha responded; "This is my second time participating in the short course and I am very happy to be able to deliver my best."

With his team mates, Dhuha delivered a gold and a silver in the relay events.

Meanwhile, Sharizan Shazali, also did the team proud by smashing 2 meet records in 50m backstroke and 100m IM. In his favourite sprint 50m backstroke, Sharizan flipped a new meet record of 27.60 erasing a 4 year old record of 27.99. In the 100m IM, he swam to 59.86 to rewrite the old time of 1:01.04s.

He clinched 4 individual gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

Sharizan (centre) sharing his joy with friends as the 1st runner-up for Group 2 boys

Whisky Chew was also named the 1st runner up for the Group 3 boys as he garnered 2 gold and 3 bronze in his individual events.

The relay teams also did fairly well with Group 1, 2 and 4 boys breaking the 4x25m medley relay as they sprinted to refresh the old times.

Another commendable swimmer is Muhd Farhan Andi who secured 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze in his individual events.

Below are the medalists and point earners for IBSC.

We congratulate all medalists and sprinters who managed to improve their multiple turnings at the short pool to faster times.

Fruition of great results come from the great dedication of team coaches without their guidance the swimmers would not have performed so well. Thanks especially to Coach Shazali and Coach Kamal for guiding the team.

The Team Manager, En. Hazrulhisyam and Assistant Team Manager, En. Zulkifry have both done their job well too in looking after the team. The massive support from parents volunteers and support team also count in making a successful swim outing for the team.

Bravo to all!

The Star : Welson and Co break national short course records in Beijing

PETALING JAYA: Welson Sim (pic) enjoyed the satisfaction of breaking Daniel Bego’s short course (25m) national records for both the men’s 200m and 400m freestyle at the FINA Swimming World Cup meet in Beijing, China.

The 20-year-old KL SEA Games double gold medallist just missed out on making the 400m freestyle final finishing ninth in the preliminaries in 3:48.93 yesterday.

Australian Jacob Ross Hansford got the last ticket for the top-eight final after clocking 3:48.87.

However, Welson’s time bettered Daniel’s previous national mark of 3:50.87 set at the World Cup meet in Singapore in 2013.

He was ranked 17th in the 200m freestyle after clocking 1:48.25 on Friday to improve on Daniel’s previous national mark of 1:49.21 set at the World Cup meet in Singapore in 2013.

“I already hold the long course (50m) national records for 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle, so I’m happy to have the records for the short course events as well.

“It’s a good experience racing in the short course as the turns and pacing are different,” said Welson.

Keith Lim also set a new short course national record in men’s 50m freestyle.

He clocked 22.55 for 21st overall placing to improve on the previous national mark of 23.15 held by Lim Ching Hwang since 2013.

Tern Jian Han set a new national record of 53.70 en route to finishing 14th in the men’s 100m butterfly, erasing Tan Gin Yu’s previous mark of 57.49 set in 2013.

Chan Jie also dipped under Gin Yu’s national mark by posting 54.43 to finish 16th in the preliminaries.

Jian Han was ranked 13th in the men’s 50m backstroke (24.71) and 19th in the 200m backstroke distance (2:02.32).

Caroline Chan was 24th in the women’s 50m (29.18) and 100m (1:04.91) backstroke events.

IB swimmers at Sel short course posted moderate results

The 6th Selangor ARENA Short Course Sprint Swimming Championship 2017 has just ended last week after a 3-day competition at Shah Alam pool from 28th to 30th July, 2017.

Some junior swimmers took the opportunity to try out the sprinting race for the first time and found it to be interesting swimming in a 25m pool. A good tumble turn and underwater technique definitely prove to be an added advantage for the short course race.

We congratulate swimmers below who have attained the top notch positions in the short course meet especially to :

Nicholas Soon | Open boys, O18 | Age group champion
Sebastian Soon  | Group 1 boys, 15-17 | 2nd runner-up | 1 meet record
Afiq Imran bin Masron |  Open boys, O18 | 2nd runner-up
Sharizan bin Shazali | Group 2 boys, 13-14 | 2nd runner-up

In the open category, Nicholas Soon gathered 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze in his individual events to earn him 65 points to top as the Open Boys Champion.

Meanwhile, his brother, Sebastian swam to 2 gold and 2 silver in the race, and in the 200m Im event, Sebastian managed to break the meet record by finishing with a superb time of 2:06.95 to overwrite last year's meet record of 2:08.18 in the 15-17 boys category.

Together with team mates, Iqmal Muqhis, Low Ken Ji and Avinaash Abraham, Sebastian and team also managed to renew IBSC's 2015 meet record of 51.19 in the 4x25m medley relay by charting a golden time of 50.69.

Sebastian, Afiq Imran and Sharizan Shazali were awarded incentives for being 2nd runner-up in their respective age group.

With a small team and many last minute scratches, the IBSC swimmers did well in securing 15 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze for individual events. For the team events, the IBSC relay teams managed 4 gold and 8 silver.

The medalists and point earners below also earned a round of applause for their great achievements.

The committee would like to thank the Team Managers, chaperons, coaches and all support team for a great support and hard work.

IBSC swimmers broke the most records in 5th Sel ARENA Short Course Sprint 2016

It was an amazing unified effort when Team IBSC went on a record breaking spree in the 5th Selangor ARENA Short Course Sprint Invitational 2016 in Shah Alam just this weekend when our swimmers broke the most number of short course records.

Sebastian Soon, 14, led in most of his events in the short course pool, tumbled down 5 meet records in total. He recorded new times in 200m freestyle (2:00.09), 100m butterfly (58.30), 100m backstroke (1:01.02), 100m IM (1:01.04) and 200m IM (2:11.08) with his stormy performances.

Sebastion Soon led his swim in 100m butterfly where he broke the meet record with a faster time of  58.30, followed closely by Low Ken Ji (in blue cap) in 2nd place at 59.71

Zachary Lim, 12, was also a star swimmer breaking 4 meet records in his age group in 200m freestyle (2:05.91), 100m freestyle (57.06), 100m backstroke (1:06.70) and 200m IM (2:18.53).

The IBSC relay teams also managed 4 records as above, dominated by the younger swimmers in the 10&U category.

With the amazing and laborious swim of all 11 events by Zachary Lim, he earned the most points for himself and was awarded the 11-12 Boys Age Group as well as Overall Champion for the meet with 126 points. We are all so proud of Zachary for his 100% effort yielding spectacular results.

11-12 Boys Champions (L-R : David Ong, Zachary Lim and Bryan Leong)

Sebastian Soon was awarded the age group champion for 13-14 boys with collection of 120 points as he swam only 9 events. His parents were ecstatic to witness him break 5 records out of 9 events he took.

Low Ken Ji, also in the same age group as Sebastian, was runner-up with 65 points.

13-14 Boys Champions (L-R : Low Ken Ji, Sebastian Soon and Lim Zi Win)

Mean while, Law Li Wei grabbed the runner-up in the 10&U Girls with compilation of 77 points behind Misa Okuzono.

10&U Girls Champions (L-R : Law Li Wei, Misa Okuzono and Jesselyn Lim)

The invitational event hosted by Persatuan Renang Amatur Selangor was held for 3 days from 26th to 28th August, 2016 at Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan. As invited club, IBSC was only restricted to 60 participants and all were classified under the state category.

Being handicapped in numbers did not stop IBSC from collecting massive points with 720 counts and the team was positioned 2nd overall among 19 clubs. That was really an excellent achievement by the Ikan Bilises, especially in teaming up to be the top fastest in almost all age-group relays.

Such outstanding victory can never be realised without the guidance of dedicated coaches and supportive parents. Well done and congratulations to all winners!

The Team Manager, Mr JY Teo, did a great job in managing the kids and their relay events. Thanks to the chaperon, Puan Zainon and the whole support team for holding the fort too.

We hope to excel again next year.
