An awesome IBSC swim trip to 14th SICC Invitation Swimming Championship in Singapore

Team IBSC made another enjoyable away meet last weekend at the prestigious Singapore Island Country Club located in Singapore. The team and accompanying parents had a fun bus trip from Cheras pool cross border to Singapore on Friday 24th Aug 2018 for 14th SICC Invitational Swimming Championship 2018. Held for two days on 25 - 26 Aug 2018, the meet attracted some 200 participants from 12 clubs from Malaysia, Singapore and The Phillipines. Although it was a first time trip to SICC for some of the swimmers and parents, they all managed to put behind all the fear and challenges away to give their best for their team.

The 22 IBSC swimmers plus Coach Daniel Lee as the 23rd swimmer have pushed the team's position to the top three with 13 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals for individuals and relays. Well done once again team IBSC for bringing home 24 medals!

Team IBSC won the third place with total points of 425.5 whilst the Phillipines Swimming League, who sent the largest group of 74 swimmers, won the first place with 1851.5 points, followed by Singapore Island Country Club at 701.5 points.

The overall best performer was Bryan Leong (15) who won all Golds in the six events he participated in. Furthermore he broke three Meet Records in 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly (which he did in 26.04s, 79ms faster than Joseph Schooling's record in 2010).

Bryan Leong with his deserving overall champ trophy

Our breastroker Harry Chong (14) contributed gold and silver medals in 100m and 50m breastroke respectively. So did Harith Miqael Hisyam (11) who won bronze in 50m breastroke event for his age category.

Harry Chong with proud dad, Gavin

Similarly in the girls category, Nur Ariessa Safiya (11) made us proud by winning first place for 50m breastroke event. A position that she shared with Hanna Rafflyn Sales from the Phillipines Swimming League (PSLSI). It was such a competitive swam towards the end, that our team were screaming for Nur Ariessa with all our heart.

Nur Ariessa all smiles winning the 50m breaststroke

Our youngest swimmer in the squad, Riverling Choo (9) improved tremendously to the effect that she is in top five rank for five events. The cherry on top was when she won silver medal for 100m butterfly.

Riverling Choo with proud mum, Evi

Our 'flying' Coach Daniel Lee proved that he is not only a coach but still can perform splendidly in the pool by winning gold for 50m butterfly and silver for 50m freestyle in the Boys 18 & Over category. Truly an inspiration to the swimmers.

Coach Daniel flying off to a golden finish

Finally, the events that brought our team together were the relays. Team managers, coach and even parents took hours to decide strategically the timing and position of each swimmer in the relays.

The effort paid off when our team managed to achieve first places in four relay events, second places on another four events and third places for the other two relays.

Our strong 14-15 years old boys relay team with Harry Chong, Lay Kye Xern, Oswin Wong, Bryan Leong and Sarvesh Pillai won gold for both the freestyle and medley relays in their age category.

And so did Kenneth Choy, Danish Kasyfi, Linzhen Chew and Muhd Danial Osman who won gold for both freestyle and medley relays in Boys 16-17 years old age group.

Meanwhile, Toh Chun Hong, Nitesh Anbazhagan, Tang Jia Jin, Dylan Wong and Harith Miqael Hisyam in the Boys 12-13 years old relay team contributed two silvers in both freestyle and medley relays.

Pleasant surprises came from Girls 10-11 years old team which we thought would face the fiercest battles from the other four competitors, based on the competitors’ swimmers PBs (personal best) time. Yong Zoe Yee, Riverling Choo, Awwal Zasfika and Nur Ariessa Safiya pulled through beautifully by winning bronze in freestyle relay and silver in medley relay. A pat on your back  girls!

Similarly, Valerie Wong (10), Tefilah Felicia (11) and Tang Jia Xin (11) swam up their age group category to join Shaena Jilaysha (13) to form Girls 12-13 years old relay team. They too made us proud by winning bronze in freestyle relay and silver in medley relay.

Seems all swimmers came home with medals. Congratulations! :)

During farewell lunch and award ceremony at the SICC Grand Ballroom, the swimmers and parents were entertained by awesome group dance and beautiful singing by groups of swimmers. But it was IBSC’s talented swimmer, Muhd Danial Osman, who’s single-handedly mesmerized the audience with his solo human beatbox performance. Bravo Danial!

The Team Manager Mr. Hazrulhisyam (Harith Miqael’s father) and Assistant Team Manager Mr. Farouq (Awwal Zasfika’s father) had both done their job well in looking after the team throughout the swim trip.

Also thanks to Coach Daniel Lee for making sure the team in great shape and morale throughout the championship and for proving us that you are also still a great swimmer.

Special thanks to Coach Lorraine from UK, her first time and short visit to Malaysia, who had also provided support, and valuable tips to some parents and swimmers as well.

The team departing from Cheras pool, accompanied by Coach Daniel Lee and also Coach Lorraine who joined the team from UK

The continuous support from parents volunteers and support team also count in making a successful overseas swim trip.

Cheers!

Small team big win in 13th SICC, Singapore

The 13th SICC Invitational Swimming Championship 2017  has just ended last Sunday from 12th to 13th August 2017 at the prestigious Singapore Island Country Club.

Despite sending a small team of 18 swimmers to the competition, this is our best ever away meet as the team attained the most medals achievement. Team IBSC won 12 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze in individual events and 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze in team relay events.

The biggest joy this year came from our young and talented swimmer, Muhamad Dhuha, 8, who made his first debut in SICC. He triumphed with 3 gold and 2 silver in his individual events and along the way smashed the meet record of 1:16.05 in 100m freestyle with an awesome PB of 1:13.15. Undoubtedly, he was conferred with the Age Group Champion for group 8 -9 boys.

Muhamad Dhuha

Another pleasant surprise came from our junior girl, Wong Joelyne, 7, who clinched 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bonze in her individual event and setting one new meet record in 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:54.92. She sliced off 6 seconds off her last PB and proved to everyone that size does not matter.

Petite Wong Joelyne may be youngest but proved to be toughest
Our Sri Lanka member, Fathima Azquiya, who has been competing under IBSC since 2015, continued her momentum by going all out to win 3 gold and 3 silver. Azquiya also rewrote the meet record of 34.61 in 50m backstroke  with a faster time of 34.47 even though it was not her personal best.

Azquiya all smiles with her achievement
Ian James Barr, who has competed in the first SICC meet 13 years ago, continued to bring more joy from the pool when he won 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the Boys 18 & Over category. He smashed 2 records in his highlights events of 50m and 100m backstroke. Ian motivated the kids a lot as he is also the accompanying coach leading the team this time.

Ian motivating his swimmers with more medals collection

Afiq Imran Bin Masron, a famous name in SICC competition, fought against stronger opponents from Sarawak State Swimming Council this year but his effort was not futile. He brought home 1 gold and 2 silver from his individual events utilising his summer holidays to the fullest.

Harry Chong, who made his second debut to this meet, only swam half day on Sunday after flying just in time from Kuala Lumpur. But the rush was well worth the effort as he was in time to grab a gold in 100m breaststroke and bronze medal in 100m freestyle, both with new PBs.

Oswin Wong, also made his second appearance to this meet, clinched an unexpected bronze in 50m freestyle. Meanwhile, Alif Idlan also secured a bronze in his favourite 100m butterfly event.

Afiq Imran bagged Overall Champ in Boys 16-17 during SICC Meet 2015

Team IBSC joined the 11th SICC Invitational Swimming Championship 2015 for the third year in a row on 1-2 August, 2015 and managed a third overall position even though the team is small with only 22 swimmers participating this year.

The meet was championed by the Philippine Swim League, followed by the host, Singapore Island Country Club as the runner-up.

This year , our team comprised of  a few junior swimmers and some senior swimmers. Not many were able to make it as the meet clashed with a local short course meet in Selangor. However, IBSC swimmers have enjoyed the away meet thoroughly as there were chances of mingling with the Singaporean and Philippines teams.

Team IBSC had an enjoyable time during the meet

Afiq Imran won the age group championship trophy for the boys 16-17 years with collection of 3 gold and 3 silver.

Many of our swimmers have taken the opportunity to renew their personal best times too, especially the younger ones leaping with improvement from one event to another.

As there weren't enough swimmers in some age groups, younger junior swimmers have to swim up to higher age group to join force in the relays and all were excited to get medals for their great team effort.

The 2-day meet ended on Sunday afternoon with a farewell lunch punctuated with some awesome performances by the swim teams including a trio singing by Alia, Afiq and Alif.

IBSC wishes to express its appreciation to the gracious host, Singapore Island Country Club, for hosting the 11th SICC Invitational Swimming Championship 2015 and we hope to see again next year.

IBSC leveled up to second position in 10th SICC Invitational Swimming Championship

Last year, Team IBSC participated in the 9th SICC Invitational meet at Singapore Island Country Club with only 19 swimmers and got third position overall. The small team has enjoyed the trip very much and that has drummed up some interest this year as IBSC sent a total of 32 swimmers to the 10th SICC Invitational meet across the causeway.

With strong challenge, Team IBSC managed to level up its position to second place this year after the Philippines Swim League, followed by the host, SICC in the third position.

Many of our swimmers joining the trip were fairly young. The meet gave them a great experience and a chance to make new friends from the neighbouring countries.

The meet started with a march past by all the participating teams and Team IBSC was led by Desmond Ng. Other teams were the Philippines Swim League, Stingray Swimming Club, Royal Selangor Golf Club, Penang Swimming Club, Sonic Swim Club, St. Claire Montessori School and the host, SICC.

Team IBSC has done fairly well by accumulating 18 gold, 22 silver and 25 bronze in the individual and relay events.

The top performer of IBSC is non other than Steve Khiew who had made a clean sweep of all 9 gold in the individual events he participated and in the process made a few PBs for himself. Steve was crowned the Overall Champion in the 11-12 years boys category.

The best girl performer of IBSC was Chloe Ng, who managed to pull in 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze in the 11-12 girls category. She also won another gold in the Mixed relay event together with team mates Howard Sim, Fatin Natsha and Iqmal Muqhis.

The swimmers had a fun time at the resort like pool even though soaked under the sun and the parents' support was really awesome. Some parents braved the Raya traffic to drive down to Singapore to watch the meet and support their swimming kids.

Bravo to Team IBSC!

Team IBSC has yet achieved another milestone in SICC meet and hopefully we will see further improvement next year.

We also would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents, Mrs Yap, Mrs Christine Tan, Mrs Law for contributing room, snacks and food to the swimmers. The accompany coach, Coach Kamaruddin has also done a great job in making sure the swimmers are taken care of, in and out of the competition.

Also thumbs-up to the accompanying parents for rendering such superb support to the team and sharing tons of good photos.

Lastly, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the host, SICC, for graciously hosting the 10th SICC meet with great hospitality. We shall meet again next year.
