Holiday Learn to Swim Clinic 2017
In collaboration with Persatuan Renang Amatur Kuala Lumpur, IBSC has conducted a holiday Learn to Swim Clinic on 5th - 8th Dec and 12th - 15th December, 2017 at Kompleks Renang Kuala Lumpur for the benefits of kids who wanted to acquire the life skill of swimming.
The program was supported by Nestle Products (M) Sdn Bhd and the kids were just too happy to be able to consume MILO drinks daily during the swimming sessions. We would also like to thank MILO for the handout goodies of drawstring/shoe bags and T-shirts to the participants.
Coaches were assisted by IBSC senior swimmers who also gained hands-on experience in handling kids and helping them to gain water confidence. The swimmers ranging from as young as 4 years to 12 years have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons. Many have pledged to continue the swimming program and IBSC is glad to be able to introduce swimming to them as a preferred sport.

Swimmers given great tips on long distance swimming by Kevin Yeap
IBSC swimmers who registered for the swim clinics by Kevin Yeap yesterday received great handy tips on how to pace and strategies a long distance swimming race. Thanks to the SEA Games 2017 Gold Medalist who won the recent 10km Open Water swimming race in Putrajaya during the SEA Games Kuala Lumpur.
Kevin has parted some valuable knowledge and skill to IB swimmers, introducing theories as well as practical techniques in the pool later.
Some excerpt from parents' feedback :
"Kevin gave a good understanding to prepare for long distance race and he was systematic and thorough in his presentation. Most enlightening was his sharing on pace sets, threshold sets, pyramid sets, longer pace sets, stroke rates as well as counts, which are all new to us. He was so willing to share his experience as a student cum national swimmer. We find him inspiring." - Mrs Jann Teh
Kevin engaged with swimmers with his personal touch and the swimmers are fond of him. Autographs and photo sessions are a must!
During the clinic, swimmers were also given a special souvenir bag by the club but what made it special was the fact the Kevin was willing to part with his momentous lapel pins and badges he collected during his swimming career, as a gift to the swimmers. They were also awarded a certificate of participation too.
Thank you Kevin and we look forward to more fruitful sessions next week and possibly in Nov 2017 too! Tune in for more.

Ben Proud Swim Clinic presented by Air Asia identifies talented IBSC swimmers to fly
Last Saturday on 25 Feb 2017, AirAsia presented a swim clinic - Ben Proud's Talent Pool 2017 at Marina Putrajaya which has attracted some 30 swimmers from the Klang Valley. During the registration, they were also pampered with gifts and training gears from AirAsia and Adidas.
IBSC signed up some eager swimmers and joined the one-day clinic consisting of dry and pool sessions with Ben Proud, the British Olympic swimmer whose training was also founded in our very own country during his schooling years.

| The participants have a group photo opportunity with AirAsia's CEO, Ms Aireen Omar, AirAsia representatives and AquaElite coaches before the session started |
The kids have thoroughly enjoyed both the dry and pool sessions and here are some of the experiences they share.
Muhd Andi recounted; "In the class, the coaches gave us so many of tips; starting with the food that's good for swimmer and preparation to face competition, why stretching exercise is good, and what we should do when we are waiting for our event to be called in the marshal room until to the starting block. There is an interesting tip that we should control our emotion with the good control so that we will not be stressed or panic. We should be confident of ourselves."
He continued; "Ben Proud joined us in the pool session and showed us how to glide under water and do flip turn with the right position so as to be faster. He also taught us the right arm pull, kicking, and head positioning when we swim each stroke."
Another swimmer Alif Idlan posted some useful tips in FB after the clinic as shown in his note below.
The kids need to be attentive, focus and display a good attitude towards training during the swim clinic as they would stand a chance to be selected to join the continuing learning program with Ben Proud in the next camp, the organiser announced.
At the end of the sessions, the crucial and most exciting moment came when Ben himself announced and picked Muhd Andi and Nicole Chan, both from IBSC, as the winners and talents of the program. Both were presented with an AirAsia aeroplane model which promised them free flights with the World's Best Low-Cost Airline to either Phuket or Gold Coast to join Ben Proud in the next swim camp. IBSC is so proud of the duo!

Nicole Chan, when asked, has this to say;
" First of all, I would like to give a million thanks to IBSC in giving me this opportunity to attend Ben Proud's Talent Pool 2017 swim clinic. I have learned new things and techniques while attending this swim clinic. Race preparation, goal setting, mental rehearsal, visualization, self believing, focusing, dealing with failure and stroke correction were the techniques we have learned.
I never expect myself to train again with Ben Proud, Antony James and his team of coaches in another training camp. At this very moment, I am very grateful and blessed. This award entitles us to participate in the final training camp to be held in Phuket or Gold Coast, Australia soon.
Lastly, I wish to give thanks to God and my parents. They're my best guidance and strongest supporters."

The Star : Proud to be under AirAsia’s wings
BY LIM TEIK HUAT
PUTRAJAYA: Glasgow Commonwealth Games double gold medallist swimmer Ben Proud (pic) will come under AirAsia’s backing as he makes a bid for Olympic glory in Tokyo in 2020.
AirAsia yesterday announced a four-year tie-up with the British Olympic swimmer who grew up in Kuala Lumpur.
Proud attended the Alice Smith School from kindergarten until year 11 when he left to pursue his swimming career further at Plymouth College.
As part of the deal, the 22-year-old will host an annual talent pool coaching clinic for up-and-coming competitive swimmers in the region, which kicked off in Putrajaya yesterday.
The Malaysian leg of the clinic, supported by the Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM), saw 30 club swimmers aged 12 to 15 take part in an intensive one-day session at Marina Putrajaya Indoor Pool.
It was conducted by Proud and AquaElite coaches Antony James, a former Olympian, who will be joined in subsequent clinics by Commonwealth Games finalist Steven Beckerleg of Britain.
Proud swam for Britain in the 50m and 100m freestyle at the Rio Olympics last year.
He placed fourth in the 50m freestyle final in Rio.
“Following my first Olympic Games experience in Rio last year, I’ve set my goals and focus on achieving success at Tokyo 2020 and prior to that, defending my title at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. It’s going to be a challenging and exciting few years ahead.
“I am delighted to have the chance to return to my swimming roots in Malaysia, where I first fell in love with the sport while growing up in Kuala Lumpur, to help train the talents of tomorrow.
“It will be really rewarding to work with AirAsia to inspire and nurture future swimming champions throughout the Asean region over the next four years,” said Proud, who won the Commonwealth Games 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle golds in Glasgow in 2014.
AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said: “Asean has an abundance of talent but we don’t always develop that to the fullest.
“I hope that with the talent pool, which we will take all across Asean, we can help fill that gap and maybe even unearth the next Joseph Schooling (Singapore), Sun Yang (China), Kosuke Kitajima (Japan) or Ben Proud.”

Pre-Comp Trial Class on 4 June 2016
The Pre-Comp Trial class was run successfully today at Kompleks Renang Kuala Lumpur with participation of more than a dozen eager kids who have pre-registered for the free program.
Young swimmers mostly aged 5-9 were assessed physically on a few basic tests to determine their flexibility. They were then taken to the pool for some basic swimming tests involving all the 4 strokes.
Some senior and experienced IBSC swimmers, Sebastian Soon, Justin Yap and Yeong Zhen Yi, have also volunteered to demonstrate some exercises and swimming drills.
Most of the young kids did fairly well whilst some have yet to master some difficult strokes but overall these group of kids have displayed good swimming potentials and totally trainable to excel in future.
The pre-comp classes will train young learners the proper techniques of swimming and geared towards competitive training for future competitions.

Inaugural Holiday Swim Clinic a success
The inaugural Holiday Swim Clinic organised jointly by Persatuan Renang Amatur Kuala Lumpur and Ikan Bilis Swimming Club (IBSC) has registered the desired number of participants from various schools in Kuala Lumpur.
The clinic organised for the first time was to spur interest in swimming and to encourage students to take up swimming as a preferred sport in view of the many benefits swimming can offer. It was indeed a blessing that MILO Nestle has been more than willing to support us in this development sports level.
The swim clinic program was unique in its way as it included 2 sessions contributed by the Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) where volunteers from ISN carried out a basic physical assessment amongst participants on week 1 followed by a nutrition talk by a dietitian in week 2.
From these 2 sessions, parents gained further insight into their children's physical abilities measured against the national development level and also many got tips in providing the nutrition intake to their kids involved in sports. The parents participated actively during the nutrition talk.

On the last day of the clinic, Ian James Bar, our national swimmer was invited to a sharing session with swimmers and parents. The kids were all eager to listen to their idol's swimming experience and even more excited with his autograph session. Ian has delivered an awesome and entertaining sharing session with his fans.

Boys

Also with the effort and guidance of our Head Coach, Coach Shazali together with the assistance of Coach Kamarudin and Coach Hisham, and help from IBSC senior swimmers, Desmond Ng and Howard Sim, the program was carried out without a glitch.
The swimmers have thoroughly enjoyed the program and have been giving positive feedbacks, with some already asking for repeat sessions. With such encouraging response, the organiser will likely to announce the next holiday swim clinic soon!
